[Creator dragon] Angel trumpet dragon

Dragon name: Angel trumpet dragon

Element: Dream, Steel

Type: Mechanical dragon

Height: 1'3 ft (38.1cm)

Weight: 14 pounds (6.35 kg)

Food: Light

Area of discovery: Places of holy significance

Time of discovery: All year round. Rarely seen

Egg:

It feels unnatural.

This egg is very light and smooth to the touch. Listening closely will let you hear the faint sounds of angelic trumpet fanfare along with a strange ticking sound. Rumors tell that this egg can somehow tell who its tamer or personal guardian is, and if someone who is not either tries to steal the egg, the egg will flash brightly as a means to blind the thief.

Hatch:

It lives inside the trumpet flower

The hatch stays inside the trumpet flower, sleeping for the most part, until the time of evolution. The trumpet flower cannot be played yet because of the hatch covering the hole. This hatch is extremely sensitive to any pressure applied on the valves of the trumpet flower and will have a shock be sent through its body should the valves be pressed. The hatch won't live long if it is out of the trumpet flower for too long. It uses light as sustenance.

Hatchling:

It is practicing playing the trumpet flower

It is not good at playing the trumpet flower at the moment, but it will practice diligently until mastery. It is able to play using basic magic, but its true power comes from actually blowing into it. Regardless on how it's played, the trumpet flower serves as the catalyst for its abilities.

Adult:

It befuddles its enemies with its playing.

By blowing into the trumpet flower, its listeners experience harsh hallucinations with varying effects. It then uses that confusion to strike with blasts of light from the trumpet flower. Each note played sounds harmonious and divine and will also break open holes through the clouds to let the light of Lathea shine across the land and annouce the descent of gods coming to visit Earth. Despite all the evidence pointing toward a heavenly dragon, the truth is it isn't as “divine” as it seems. In truth, it actually is a machine posing as an angel. The true life-form of this dragon is the “Heart” that is connected to the central jewel on its body. If the jewel is receives too much damage, that damage goes straight to the mechanical heart, killing the dragon.

Dragon story:

“The first false angel”

Long, long ago…there was a faraway dimension that was a haven of angelic dragons that served under two great gods. This haven was called Daturmansia. The haven's name was a combination of the names of the two gods, Datura, the goddess of nightmares, and Brugmansia, the god of dreams. They ruled as king and queen together.

And every hundred years, this haven would throw a festival in celebration of Daturmansia's creation for seven days.

On the first day, The angel dragons happily played music on their trumpets for their king and queen.

On the second day, Datura spent her night tending to the dreams of her subjects. Whenever she would find a poor soul who was tormented by bad dreams, she would visit their dreams and sooth them with a special kind of flower she grew in her garden by putting the flower under their pillow. Once everyone was sleeping peacefully, she would come back to take the flower once they woke up the next morning.

On the third day, Brugmansia wandered into his queen's garden while looking for her.

“My dear? Are you in here? The dragons wanted to know where they could-…you know…I've never really seen her garden before. All these gorgeous flowers are under some dark veil. I wonder-”

“What are you doing?”

Datura walked into her husband as he was enthralled by her garden of mysterious blooms, however unpleased. She pulled him away and scolded him.

“Don't touch them. They look pretty, but they are dangerous and should only be handled by me. OK?”

He was a bit embarrassed about being talked to like a kid in trouble with their mom. He tried to explain to her that he was just curious about her garden and why she never lets anyone near, not even him. But she wasn't hearing it.

“Sweetheart, I know you're curious, but I use those flowers to both dispel AND give nightmares. I get rid of the nightmare, you come in and give the angel dragons happy dreams, either one of us puts them back to sleep, end of story. The REAL cruel and wicked ones down there on Earth can have the dangerous part of those flowers, and you are neither of those things, so I better not see you with my flowers because you didn't take my warning seriously. …also there's a veil because my flowers don't like light.”

She whispered that last part. She not-so-subtly told him what for and guided him out of her garden. His embarrassment increasing tenfold. The day continued as normal…normal as it can get…after that.

On the fourth day, Brugmansia visited the dreams of his subjects to add a little fun to their otherwise boring night. Using his ancient technology, he brought joy and laughter to the angel dragons in their sleep. His machines posed no such threat unlike his wife's peculiar blossoms.

On the fifth day, eerie cracks in the sky began to show, worrying the dragons and two gods.

On the sixth day, dimensional invaders poured through those same cracks, wreaking havoc upon Daturmansia. The angels tried to protect their king and queen, but most if not all were killed in the act. Datura fought with all her might for her dimension and for her fallen subjects, but she sadly became another victim. Her husband eventually discovered her lifeless corpse, he was paralyzed by the shock, which gave invaders more than enough opportunity to hit him with a powerful beam of energy. The beam blasted his body through the window of his pristine castle and into the garden. He laid limp in a bed of those same flowers his once-alive wife told him not to touch just a few days ago, unable to find to strength to get up. The invaders, thinking that both gods were dead fled the dimension, knowing the damage was done…

However…

On the seventh day…he barely opened his eyes again. He was once surrounded by his adoring dragons, his loving wife, and a bed of flowers…now only waking to all of it reduced to dust…all of it save one single flower he clutched to…and that's when the idea hit him.

Quickly, he went to work on “His greatest machine” yet. His technology combined with the last flower from Datura's garden as the core…he created a mechanical angel…the first false angel.

“It's working! I can restore Daturmansia! Just wait my love, it'll be like nothing happened! Heh...heheh…”

It was clear as day that the “Danger” his wife eluded to was the hallucinations one would experience should one be exposed to it. He made more and more of these “False angels” and managed to replicate the flowers to use as cores, thinking that it would somehow have any impact. It didn't matter at this point for he was well beyond mad from losing it all in a matter of minutes...but further amplified from the flowers. He cherished his first successful false angel and talked to it as if he was still looking at his wife's face.

“Fly! My angels! Play your songs to Lathea and all of Earth! Heheheh...no one shall take you ever again.”

“nO ONe…sHaLl…tAKe…mE.”

… … …

“That's right…no one shall take me…take me down THAT easily."

Datura spoke to herself, hiding in the shadows. She actually survived the invasion attack, but just acted like she died to get the attackers to back off. She turned her gaze towards the same sky that poured out those creatures. Swearing to avenge her home, subjects…and husband.

“Those wretches…why would they specifically push him towards my garden? How could they know the secret behind my flowers? …if he was exposed to just a few of them, maybe I could've saved him, but my ENTIRE garden? I'm surprised he hasn't died on the spot. They could've just ended him right then and there when he found me…but they chose to shove him into my garden. Premeditated or petty arrogance, it matters not. Those monsters aren't safe from my wrath.”

Whether the invaders were actually monsters, dragons, demons, humans even, no one in the present day knows…no one knows when Datura will exact her revenge either.

Concept art:

The Korean probably isn't perfect as I literally just used Google translate for it. The females are purple while the males are green. The yellow parts on the dragon are meant to be metallic.

And yes, that THING of an undead form is literally the dragon's mechanical “Heart”.

And now here is the part where I tell the inspiration and stuff about my dragon (for those who want to know)

To start off with, No, I did not come up with those strange names for those gods in the story on the fly. “Datura” and “Brugmansia” are the scientific names for the Angel and Devil's trumpet flowers, which are the main inspiration for this dragon. Despite the name “Angel trumpet flower” it actually is a crazy dangerous flower, most known for its ability to induce hallucinations on people (no seriously, this thing can dilate your eyes just by touching the flower then touching your eyes) (and yet this thing is still used as medicine…somehow)

I added the swirly eyes to give that “Dizzy” feeling, hence the hallucinations. I gave the ram horns because of the whole “sacrificial lamb thing you'd see in general biblical stuff” (also yes I did reference the Bible in the story with the seven days)

Trumpet because Angel, and the “Mechanical angel” thing because I needed a way to explain the hallucinations that were more devilish than anything (but the mechanical thing was also partially because apparently the animals that used to spread the flower's seeds went extinct, therefore the flower's natural reproduction method went extinct with it, but was kept alive through human preservation, technically now making the flower “artificial”)

The reason why the gods in the story were Nightmare and Dream gods were because both are related to the Psyche…no not the dragon Psyche. Hallucinations are also related to the psyche as it affects the mind. It was just to hint at the hidden dark side of the Angel trumpet)

(Fun fact, you can tell the difference between actual Angel's trumpet flowers and Devil's trumpet flowers by which direction they face. Up for devil, Down for angel, both are bad juju)
