주로 깊은 바닷속에서 바위에 붙어있는 채로 발견된다.

이는 알이 강력한 해류에 떠내려가는 것을 방지하기 위한 것이다.

알은 아직 형태가 온전하지 않아 물렁하지만 부화하기 전에는 입구가 절대로 열리지 않는다.

Eggs are mainly found attached to rocks in the deep sea. This is to prevent the eggs from being carried away by strong ocean currents.
The eggs are not yet in perfect shape and are soft, but the entrance never opens before hatching.

죽은 물고기를 찾으러 다닌다.

They are looking for dead fish.

태어났을 때부터 단단한 껍데기를 가지고 있어 포식자에게 노려질 위험이 적지만, 아직 사냥하는 법을 몰라 죽은 물고기의 사체를 먹는다. 다른 바다 생물의 시체가 부패하여 바닷물이 오염되는 것을 막는데 도움을 주기 때문에 바다의 청소부라고 불린다.

해치는 혹시 모를 천적의 위험에서 살아남기 위해 껍데기 밖으로 나오는 일이 없어 다른 심해 드래곤들과 달리 지느러미로 헤엄을 칠 수가 없다. 거품을 뿜어서 추진력을 얻어 헤엄치는데 신체 구조 상 뒤로 나아간다. 그래서 후진하다가 실수로 엉뚱한 곳에 부딪히는 일이 많다고 한다.

Young individuals never come out of their shells to survive the danger of possible natural enemies, so unlike other deep-sea dragons, they cannot swim with their fins. It swims by spewing bubbles to gain propulsion, but due to its body structure, it moves backwards. So it is said that they often accidentally hit the wrong place while backing up.

어느 정도 자란 뒤에는 껍데기 밖에서 생활하기 시작한다.

해치 때와 달리 먹이를 사냥하기도 한다.

새로 자라난 날개에는 촉수들이 숨어있는데 촉수를 뻗어 먹이를 붙잡을 수 있다.

그래도 여전히 주요 먹이는 죽은 물고기이며 살아있는 동물을 잡아먹는 경우는 가끔씩 보인다.

Their wings have hidden tentacles that they can extend to capture prey. However, their main food is still dead fish, and they are occasionally seen eating live animals.

다 자란 노틸러스는 인간을 제외하면 천적이 없다.

껍질은 최강의 내구성을 가지고 있어 그 어떤 위험한 상대일 지라도 절대로 깨지지 않는 단단함을 보여준다.

세 쌍의 날개는 노틸러스가 헤엄치는 것을 도와 더 먼 곳을 향해 나아갈 수 있는 길잡이 역할을 한다.

노틸러스가 세차게 물거품을 일으키는 모습은 정말 아름답다고 전해진다. 

Adult Nautilus has no natural enemies except humans.

The three pairs of wings help the nautilus swim and serve as a guide to go farther.
It is said that the sight of the Nautilus vigorously creating foam is truly beautiful.

언데드

노틸러스의 껍데기는 특이하고 아름다운 모양으로 비싸게 팔리기 때문에 많은 수렵꾼들의 표적이 되었다. 이 때문에 노틸러스의 껍데기를 거래하는 것을 금지하는 법이 생겨났으나, 암시장에서 은밀하게 거래되는 경우도 가끔 있다고 한다.

암컷은 수컷보다 뿔의 개수가 더 많다.

몸 전체가 말랑말랑하여 껍데기에 들어갈 수 있는데, 입구를 닫아버려 거의 무적 상태로 적의 공격을 방어할 수 있다. 

Females have more horns than males.

They entire body is so soft that it can fit into the shell, and by closing the entrance, it is almost invincible and can defend against enemy attacks.

스토리

길고 먼 항해의 시작

입구를 절대로 열지 않는 알에서 작은 드래곤이 태어났다.

어린 드래곤은 매우 단단한 껍데기를 가지고 있었지만 작고 약했기 때문에 세상에 있는 모든 것들을 무서워하였다.

‘제발 다가오지 마!’

노틸러스는 껍데기 속에 숨어 벌벌 떨고 있었다.

하지만 두려움을 이겨내고 어둠으로 가득한 이 험준한 바닷속에서 살아남아야 한다.

노틸러스는 바닷속에 가라앉은 수많은 배들 사이를 돌아다녔다.

‘정말 무모한 자들이군. 바다는 거칠고 무자비한 곳이라고.’

노틸러스는 부서진 배들을 보며 탄식하였다. 목숨이 아까운지도 모르는 무모한 사람들 같으니.

노틸러스는 반짝이는 보석이 든 상자를 보고 난파선에 호기심이 들어 여기저기 보물이 더 없나 찾아다녔다.

어디에서는 볼 수 없는 귀중한 물건들을 보면 공포가 사라지는 듯 했다.

노틸러스는 한 선원이 일기장에 남긴 모험담을 보았다.

거센 폭풍우를 만나 큰일 날 뻔했지만 운좋게 빗겨나가거나,

전설로만 전해지는 섬에 도착하여 원정대와 함께 위대한 발견을 하거나,

낯선 곳에 도착하여 표류하는 등 흥미진진한 이야기가 적혀있었다.

하지만 갑자기, 파도가 배의 주변으로 사납게 몰아쳤다. 아마 다른 드래곤의 소행으로 보인다.

겁을 먹은 노틸러스는 껍데기 속에 숨어 파도가 잠잠해지기를 기다렸다. 

정신을 차리고 껍데기 속에서 나와 주위를 둘러보자, 보물은 온데간데 없어져 있었다. 

남은 것은 자신의 손에 든 지도 하나 뿐이었다. 

지도에는 알타리아의 모든 섬이 그려져있었다.

노틸러스는 지도를 보고 놀랐다.

‘바다는 너무 넓어. 지금까지 볼 수 없었던 것들로 가득 차 있구나.’

노틸러스는 저 바다 너머에 무엇이 있는지 알고 싶었다.

그렇게 그는, 긴 항해를 시작했다.

story

The beginning of a long, long voyage

A small dragon was born from an egg whose entrance was never opened. The young dragon had a very hard shell, but because it was small and weak, it was afraid of everything in the world.

‘Please don’t come near!’

Nautilus was hiding in its shell and trembling.
But he must overcome his fear and survive in this rugged sea full of darkness. Nautilus wandered among numerous ships sunken in the sea.

‘They are truly reckless. The sea is a rough and merciless place.’

Nautilus sighed as he looked at the broken ships. They seem like reckless people who don't know how precious their lives are. When Nautilus saw the box containing the sparkling jewels, he became curious about the shipwreck and looked around to see if there were any more treasures. His fear seemed to disappear when he saw precious items that could not be found anywhere else.

Nautilus saw an adventure story left in a sailor's diary.
There were exciting stories written, such as encountering a strong storm and almost being in big trouble, but luckily avoiding it, arriving at an island only known as legends and making great discoveries with the expedition team, or arriving in an unfamiliar place and being stranded. But suddenly, the waves crashed fiercely around the ship. It appears that it was probably the work of another dragon.

Frightened, Nautilus hid in his shell and waited for the waves to calm down. When he came to his senses, came out of his shell and looked around, the treasure was gone everywhere. All he had left was a map in his hand. All of Altaria's islands were depicted on the map.

Nautilus was surprised to see the map. ‘The sea is too wide. ‘It is full of things that have never been seen before.’ Nautilus wanted to know what was beyond the sea.

So he began his long voyage.

마무리

노틸러스의 모티브는 앵무조개입니다. (앵무조개는 영어로 Nautilus)

특이하게 생긴 모습 때문에 이를 본따 만든 드래곤이 나오면 재미있을 것 같아 제작하게 되었습니다.

모티브가 된 동물을 제대로 참고하기 위해 완성하기 전에 인터넷에서 여러 가지 정보를 찾아다녔습니다.

디자인은 처음에 만들 때는 단순했지만 마음에 들 때까지 여러 가지 부분을 바꿔가며 그리는 시행착오 끝에 완성되었습니다.

The design of this character is a nautilus, and because of its unique appearance, I thought it would be fun to come up with a design modeled after it.
