The Dragon Who Gave Away His Wings | Aureth

Long before he became a broken legend, he was known as Aureth, a Divine Dragon born from the first light of creation. His scales shone like molten gold, and his wings carried the warmth of dawn across the heavens.

Yet among all the wonders of the world, nothing captivated him more than a single human.

The boy was neither king nor hero. He possessed no divine blood, no ancient power. He was simply kind. His smile softened the dragon's immortal heart, and for the first time in countless ages, Aureth wished not to rule the skies, but to walk beside someone.

Their bond grew in secret.

But love is often envied.

Another celestial dragon, consumed by jealousy and bitterness, watched from afar. Unable to bear the sight of Aureth's happiness, he struck without warning. One moonless night, the young man was mortally wounded, his life fading like a candle in the rain.

Aureth arrived too late.

Holding the boy in his claws, he heard the final weakening heartbeat. The heavens themselves trembled as the Divine Dragon screamed in grief.

Refusing to accept death, Aureth turned to a forbidden spell—an ancient ritual abandoned even by the gods.

The price was absolute.

Not gold.

Not power.

Not his soul.

His body.

To restore the life that had been stolen, Aureth sacrificed his divine form piece by piece. His flesh became the vessel. His wings became the seal. His immortal essence became the flame that reignited the boy's heart.

The miracle succeeded.

The young man opened his eyes once more.

But Aureth was no longer whole.

His radiant body crumbled into a twisted shell of divine remnants and cursed energy. The magnificent dragon of light became a fragmented being, suspended between life and death. Neither god nor monster. Neither alive nor gone.

And yet…

He never regretted it.

Even now, legends say that he watches from the shadows of forgotten ruins, his broken form wrapped in golden darkness. Though his body was lost, his love remained untouched.

For while gods are remembered for their power,

heroes for their courage,

and kings for their glory…

Aureth was remembered for a greater miracle.

He loved someone enough to give away everything he was.

Inscription

“My wings became chains, my flesh became ash, and my divinity faded into silence. Yet if I had to choose again between eternity and your life... I would still choose you.”
