Egg
"a purple aura emanates from the egg"
Pieces of gold stick to the shell of the egg. A dim purple glow emanates from deep within the core of the egg. The egg itself shimmers almost holographic between pink and blue depending on the angle it is viewed from.
Hatch
"the scales of this dragon shimmer in the daylight"
Very small dragon with little horns. The eyes are closed, and similarly to the egg it's scales change on the direction it is viewed from. It wraps it's wings around itself to keep warm and protect itself.
Hatchling
"This dragon changes the shape of gold."
Scales as before shift colours. The dragons horns are more pronounced, the wings are partly skin and scale around the front but feathers cover the rest. The purple glow begins to show slightly through the eyes and ribcage. Some fur or feathers begin to grow at the tip of the tail.
Adult
Fully developed horns. The purple glow from within the dragon shows through the throat, eyes, nose and chest as well as the inside of the mouth. The wings are also fully developed. The feathers also change colours but not as fluidly. The dragon forms sheets of gold to it's body to help contain the magic/curse of the purple aura and to act as armour.
Story
Long ago, this dragon was known to hide itself deep within caves underground and attack anybody
who attempted to mine the ore that formed within them. A great king ordered a bounty on the
dragon. Anybody who could clear the mines would be handsomely rewarded with part of the materials gathered from it. Nobody who entered the caves returned and for a time the bounty remained unclaimed until a witch took up the challenge and went into the caves. The witch and the dragon fought, but in the end the witch cursed the dragon and cast it into the ocean, forever changing its form.
