Egg
It is an egg covered in sea flowers and algae.
It can be found on the warms sands of kelp forests. Since it is heavy it rarely moves, so algae accumulates easily on the shell. The algae attracts sea flowers and the sea flowers give nutrients to the egg. It shifts to wherever the sunlight is strong so the sea flowers bloom even more. The closer it is to hatching more and more sea flowers bloom.
Hatch
Spends time with the adults to learn tending and caring skills.
Spends a lot of its time learning from and mimicking the adults. It grows curious to learn new ways to care for the sea flowers on its hide. It is a poor swimmer so algae continues to bloom on its hide. Because of its poor swimming it hitches rides on the backs of the adults. It dreams of one day building its own kelp forest to become a sanctuary for other creatures and dragons.
Hatchling
Practices its tending and caring skills with an algae covered rock.
The adults give it an algae covered rock to care for like an egg. It spends months caring for this rock and once the adults of the pod deem it ready, support its dream of building their own kelp forest. It leaves the pod with kelp cuttings and begins searching for its own space. While it looks for the perfect place to build its sanctuary it helps other creatures and dragons in need, improving their tending and caring skills. The algae continues blooming across its hide and keeps it warm in cooler waters.
Adult
It cares for the eggs of their new pod and protects its sanctuary.
After building its beautiful kelp forest it invites other creatures and dragons in need of a home. It is very friendly, mellow, and protective. As it cares for its kelp forest other Dugo dragons join in to help keep the sanctuary and it’s residents safe, and forming a pod. The algae and sea flowers help keep it warm, safe, and healthy.
Story- The Perfect Sanctuary
Dugo wished to build their perfect sanctuary since she was a hatch. She watched her family closely to gather the best tending skills. As she grew she practiced everything she learned over and over again. Since she was so diligent she was taught even more skills.
Once she grew into a hatchling her family gifted her a beautiful algae covered rock and said, “You have been so caring and kind, it is time for you to take the next step every Dugo takes.” Dugo’s eyes shined with happiness and determination, she was more than ready. She only grew more caring and took care of her rock like it was a precious egg. Dugo spent so much time with the rock, it started blooming with the sea flowers that grew on her hide.
Her family deemed her ready to cross the oceans and find a place to build her own sanctuary. Dugo was so excited and eager. The day came and she left her home searching for the perfect place to build her new home.
“Help! Help!” Hearing the distressed voice, Dugo immediately followed it. She came across a sea turtle tangled in seaweed. “Don’t worry I’m hear to help.” Dugo said as she helped to untangle the turtle.
“Thank you! You saved me!” The sea turtle thanked Dugo and gifted her a special cutting of kelp. “I hope you can make use of that.” Dugo thanked the sea turtle and continued her search for the perfect sanctuary. Throughout her journey she helped many creatures, big and small, and collected more and more kelp. One day she came across an empty area. The sun was bright, the sand was warm, and rocks were in convenient places. Finally she found the perfect spot and began planting all the kelp she collected.
The kelp grew and grew until it became a beautiful forest. Dugo invited many dragons and creatures and the forest grew even more. She finally had the perfect sanctuary of her dreams.
