Story
Echo returned to its lair after a long flight. Usually bat dragons do not become attached to any place, they are free dragons, and extremely rarely they become attached to humans. But this was not this case, Echo, in its old age, became attached to one person from the nearest village...
Once upon a time, flying over the forest, it heard a fight. Echo's hearing allowed the dragon to hear perfectly. These were children. They argued among themselves and did not share something. Curious, Echo perked up its ears, but before it could understand what was going on, one of the children angrily pushed the other. A careless step back and the boy flew into the river nearby. A strong flow of cold water picked him up and carried him further.
"Should I intervene? After all, humans are humans... What don't I know about them?"
However, before dragon turned around and flew further, a new cry of a child reached its ears.
Having made up its mind, Echo spread its wings and rushed to catch up with the boy, who was being carried away by the water. However, after a short pursuit, tenacious paws snatched the child from the water with ease. And after that, the dragon took him home, to his village...
Since then, Echos sometimes visited the village. Of course, it did this for the sake of its new friend, but very soon Echo became a welcome guest in the entire village. Sharing its dragon's wisdom with humans, in return they taught it everyday humans things too. Children read their books aloud to it, blacksmiths taught it how to handle metals, tailors taught it how to work with fabrics, tanners taught it the rational use of materials, and the boy it saved taught the dragon the most important thing - true friendship... Echo was often approached by both humans and dragons, but every time they wanted some kind of knowledge from it, and therefore it did not know what true friendship was. Until that day.
As a result, they remained friends throughout their lives. The boy has noticeably matured, as has Echo.
Echo movements were no longer the same as before. Now it got tired quickly, and dragon understood what motivated its desire to find a safe, quiet lair. The dragon tiredly lay down on the floor of the lair. It was weak after nightly activity, morning was approaching, but it didn't fall asleep. It was waiting Suddenly, It heard footsteps. Its ears perked up. It heard a voice familiar to Echo:
"Echo, are you there? I can't see in the dark."
It was Echo's friend. Dragon itself invited him to meet it here. Echo leaned forward, touching its skull to the now adult human. Realizing that it was an goodbye, the two friends spent the morning together, talking and fooling around like old times, until the dragon fell asleep.
Realizing that he should leave Echo, the man cast a sad look at his friend and was forced to return home. Returning to the lair the next day, he did not see Echo, but in its place he saw a familiar skull, under which was a gray egg.
