알

이 알은 둥지 속에 놓여있다.

울창한 나무들 사이에서 발견되는 알이지만 항상 그 중에 볕이 드는 곳에서만 찾을 수 있다. 커다란 둥지안에 체온을 유지하기 위한 깃털들이 감싸고 있다. 알은 정체불명의 무늬가 새겨진 금속 고리와 같이 나타나는데 이 고리만 빼내서 가져가도 어째서인지 하룻밤이 지나면 사라지고 알 옆으로 다시 돌아가 있는다고 한다.

해츨링

진화한 해츨링은 발톱과 날개가 발달하면서 사냥연습을 자주 한다.

솜털에서 깃털이 돋아나고, 몸속에서 여기저기 날카로운 뿔들이 자라나는데 이것이 가려운 탓인지 부리같은 주둥이로 몸단장을 하는 모습을 자주 보인다. 페일던의 해츨링을 쓰다듬게 된다면 털속의 뿔에 찔리지 않게 조심하자.

야행성이 명확해져 낮에는 해치때처럼 가만히 있거나 잠을 자고, 밤에는 더욱 활발하게 움직인다.

이따금씩 발톱과 꼬리 끝부분에 사냥감의 잔해가 아닌 요상한 얼룩을 묻혀 돌아오는데, 아무리 닦아도 잘 지워지지 않는다. 일부 노련한 테이머들은 얼룩이 많이 묻은 부분을 보고 페일던의 성향을 파악할 수 있다고 한다.

Hatchling

The nocturnal nature has become clear, so they stay still or sleep during the day as in the hatch days, and move more actively at night.

Occasionally, the claws and tail ends are returned with strange stains, not the remains of the prey, but they cannot be removed well no matter how much they are wiped. Some experienced tamers are said to be able to grasp Paledawn’s tendency by looking at the spots that are heavily stained.

성체 

밤의 사냥꾼, 영혼의 인도자라는 별명이 있다.

오래전부터 존재했지만 개체수가 적고 야행성인데다 깊은 산이나 숲속에서 주로 서식한다. 그런 탓에 페일던이 연구가 되고, 드래곤 협회에 정식으로 드래곤으로 분류되고 등록된 것도 꽤나 최근에 이루어졌다.

페일던이 드래곤으로 분류되기 전까지는 집채만한 부엉이를 봤다, 키메라다 등의 의견이 분분했다.

부엉이를 닮은 페일던은 눈에서 이글거리는 빛이 나는데 시력이 매우 좋으며, 날갯짓에서 소리가 나지 않아 사냥능력이 뛰어나다. 그러나 낮에는 태양빛이 눈부셔 눈을 제대로 뜰 수 없고, 비가 오는 날에도 날개가 젖으면 무거워지는 탓에 활동이 거의 불가능하다.

그럼에도 불구하고 빛을 매우 좋아하는 습성이 있다. 그래서인지 달이 밝게 비치는 밤에는 영혼을 꿰뚫어보는 능력이 생기기도 한다. 페일던은 커다란 눈으로 영혼을 구분하여 사악한 영혼은 날카로운 앞발톱으로 낚아채어 사냥하고, 선하고 길 잃은 영혼들은 부드러운 꼬리로 갈무리하여 저승으로 안내한다고 전해진다.

그래서 육식을 즐겨하지만 가끔 사람의 눈에 보이지 않는 것을 쫓는 모습도 관찰되는데 사람들은 페일던이 악한 영혼을 사냥한다고 믿어왔다.

페일던이 서식하는 숲 지역 사람들에게는 몇가지 이에 대한 전설이 있다.

그 중 하나의 예로 페일던은 정직하고 선한 사람을 좋아하며, 거짓말을 하거나 악한 영혼을 가진 사람을 구분하여 공격한다는 구담이 전해진다.

페일던은 영혼을 다룰수 있기 때문에 영혼과 접촉할수록 몸에 영혼 얼룩이 진다고 한다. 악한 영혼을 사냥하는 개체에는 발톱에 얼룩이 많이 지고, 선한 영혼을 인도하는 개체는 꼬리에 얼룩이 많이 진다고 한다.

마을에서 장례식을 하거나 축제가 열릴 때 페일던이 날아가는 모습이 보이면 조상님들이나 떠난 마을사람들의 영혼이 올바르게 인도되었다고 믿어 길한 징조라고 여겼다고 한다.

페일던은 빛속성이나 조용한 성격의 드래곤과의 교배로 혹은 보름달이 뜬 날에 태어나는 해치 중에 드물게 황금빛 눈을 가진 개체가 태어나기도 하는데, 황금빛 눈을 가진 페일던은 태양이 뜬 낮에도 어느정도 활동할 수 있을 정도로 강한 빛과 친숙하다고 한다.
