Egg:

This egg has some crystals floating around it.

Two big crystals form the main body of the egg with some small surrounding it. All of them are held together by a mysterious force, which slowly spins them in a circle, creating a barely hearable sound. In response to any displacement of the crystals, the same force will try to bring them back to its original form.

Hatch:

It tries to manipulate its crystals.

Hatches use surrounding minerals in their area to grow, mostly preferring the silica from sand. This allows their big crystals to grow alongside the connected small ones. If the small crystals grow big enough, they detach. Those crystals start to vibrate and produce noises if the hatch hasn’t learnt how to maintain these abilities.

Hatchling:

This hatchling is learning their crystal manipulation power

Hatchlings don't have any natural senses. Instead, hatchlings use their small crystals as sensors to detect vibrations, allowing them to interact with sounds, air flows and anything that might be touching them. In addition, they start producing unique, high frequency sounds used for echolocation and to identify quartz dragons from each other.

Adult:

It can move any crystal as they wish.

Growing up, Quartz dragons learn how to imitate a large variety of sounds, with the most skilled ones being able to imitate a whole orchestra. Older Quartz dragons start to lose the powers that maintain their life, and their bodies fall apart when its time for their life to end. Some younger Quartz dragons can use their powers to support the body parts of other quartz dragons, slightly increasing their lifespan. If older dragons affected by this power are too weak, their entire personality can fade away and their bodies simply become a puppet, in another dragons hands.

Story:

While creating an egg, two Quartz dragons combine some of their small crystals together while also adding one big crystal from each dragon saturated with a small part of their essence forming two main crystals and personality of the new dragon.

Quartz dragons prefer to live in deserts or beaches there they can easily find silica which they and their descendants use to grow. In these places they create their closed from other creatures communities and splitting off to different families. Some adult family members polish both their main crystals to show their loyalty to family, causing their lifespan to increase, however that prevents their small crystals to produce, but even then, they can still use crystals grown by others. Each Quartz family use their own polished form of crystal. Some just polish spheres, some icosahedrons and octahedrons, and other symmetrical shapes. All Quartz dragons are very carefully keeping track of the placements of their items and crystals in their body, trying to keep all of them in their rightful places.

As a interesting feature to show inability to grow crystals and reproduse after polishing, witch dragon action “witch curse” can give them “polished” form.

Only adults have enough powers to hold there bodies in air, while hatches and hatchlings need some ground to stand.

Design of this dragon based on white transparent quartz crystals, so the colors used are pretty close to real ones.
